INDUSTRIAL ABSEILING VS SCAFFOLDING
Industrial abseiling and scaffolding are both methods used in construction and maintenance work, but they differ significantly in terms of approach, application and type of work they are suitable for.
Scaffolding is a temporary structure, typically made from metal poles and wooden platforms, constructed around the building to provide a stable platform and access for workers. It is commonly used for larger, long-term projects.
Zenith is proficient in delivering many of our services using industrial abseiling techniques. Also known as rope access, industrial abseiling involves workers using harnesses and ropes anchored to secure points on the building to access and work at heights. Industrial abseiling allows us to offer our clients substantial cost savings without sacrificing quality workmanship or expertise.
THE BENEFITS OF ROPE ACCESS
Minimal Disruption
Unlike scaffolding, rope access involves less equipment and no bulky, permanent structures. Industrial abseiling works from the top of the building down to the bottom. This results in minimal disturbance to the façade appearance, accessibility to the building entrances, and privacy of the people in the area.
Cost
With scaffolding, the higher the building means more scaffolding equipment, leading to more time and overall cost. Rope access is much more cost effective because it requires less equipment and time to assemble, regardless of the building size.
Time
Rope access is a much more efficient process, requiring less time to set up and dismantle. Unlike scaffolding, time is not wasted on construction of supporting structures. Industrial abseiling therefore has a significant time and cost advantage, especially for short-term tasks. The time it takes to assemble scaffolding makes it much better suited for long-term projects.
Safety
While industrial abseiling may seem perilous, rope access has far better safety statistics than any means of high access. There is a high standard of required training and is a more regulated industry. This makes it safer than scaffolding without having to deal with the necessary scaffolding requirements.
Flexibility
Scaffolding equipment is bulky and requires a large amount of open space below the work zone in order to set it up. Industrial abseiling is a complete access method, able to reach restricted areas that scaffolding can’t access. Industrial abseiling also allows close proximity to the building, without contact that could potentially cause damage.
